British Values
Modern British Values
At Wansbeck Primary, the Modern British Values are woven through our curriculum, carefully mapped out each year to ensure the children are exposed to them throughout each stage of their learning. They are displayed around the school as reminders of our modern and diverse culture, underpinning the key elements as a citizen in this country.
The Modern British Values are listed below.
- Rule of Law
- Individual Liberty
- Mutual Respect
- Tolerance
- Democracy
Our curriculum has been planned to allow us to make links between past and present events, building up an understanding of how the British Values have developed and are still used in everyday life. We think about our British Values when introducing a new topic, discussing links we can make to see the effects of the Modern British Values on our lives today. Some examples of the links are below:
Phase | Topic/Key Figure | Modern British Value |
---|---|---|
EYFS | Me and My World | Mutual Respect |
KS1 | Amy Johnson | Individual Liberty |
LKS2 | Tudors | Rule of Law/Democracy |
Slave Trade | Democracy | |
UKS2 | World War II | Democracy |
Ancient Greece | Rule of Law |
Modern British Values in Assembly
Our weekly assemblies offer us a brilliant opportunity to talk about the Modern British Values as a whole school. We use the time when we meet altogether to think about how we use the British Values ourselves and make links between them and our core values of respect, responsibility, and resilience.
