Computing – Curriculum Information
The aim of ICT teaching at Wansbeck Primary School is to stimulate the children’s interest and understanding of technologies. Our aim is to make sure that children leave primary school with the ability to use a range of devices safely.
The skills begin in EYFS and are built upon throughout the school. All children are given the opportunity to learn a range of computer skills and use both iPads and laptops to develop their ability to use different equipment. Children learn both creative skills and practical skills through the curriculum to ensure they have a well–rounded understanding of computing.
The subject encourages children to develop an understanding of how technology makes a difference in all aspects of life- at home, at school and in the workplace, as well as considering the impact technology has had on society over the years.
The teaching of computing is split into three main areas: Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy. We also teach children the basic skills needed to use laptops and the importance of being safe online. Each year the children will cover all of these aspects through their work in computing lessons and the wider curriculum. Children’s understanding will develop each year and build upon the previous year’s understanding and knowledge.
Whilst the majority of the curriculum will be taught in discreet computing lessons, through using Teach Computing, it is an expectation that the children will supplement this learning with the use of computing across the curriculum. This will embed the day to day computing skills which are essential in our modern society.
