Music
Music – Curriculum Information
At Wansbeck Primary school, we want to be able to stimulate the children’s interest and understanding about a range of music, exploring music from a range of different cultures and eras.
Within Foundation Stage and KS1, our children will be given opportunities to sing and use their voice expressively, whilst also experimenting with different types of instruments such as tambourines, maracas and glockenspiels etc. Our children will begin to listen and appreciate music to help them develop their own sounds and patterns.
Across KS2, our children are given the opportunity to learn various musical techniques from a specialist music tutor. Our children gain further opportunities to explore a range of musical instruments such as keyboards, ukuleles and recorders etc. Furthermore, our children will perform in front of different audiences, increasing their confidence to perform both individually and as part of a group.
Also, in Year 5 and Year 6, we provide our children with a rich knowledge of how music has developed over time. We create cross-curricular links to allow our children to use their inference skills to decode song lyrics and meaning. In addition, our children are exposed to discussions, whichexplore how music can be used within the wider world.
Our curriculum and extra-curricular activities will enable pupils to discover their interests and open their eyes to future possibilities. Our children are also be given opportunity to explore and express their own thoughts and feelings in relation to the subject.
