PSHE – curriculum information
PSHE Curriculum Overview
At Wansbeck Primary School, we see Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) as being at the centre of all that we do. This prepares pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of schooling and later life.
Our curriculum is designed around three drivers – the development of social selves, emotional selves and academic selves. Our school values of respect, resilience and responsibility, alongside the character curriculum, prepares our children for life beyond primary school and gives them the building blocks to contribute to society. We aim to provide children with the ambition to achieve well, through building confidence and independence.
Our weekly PSHE lessons allow us the opportunity as individuals and groups to learn about ourselves in a range of differing aspects. We look at the following topics throughout the year, each lasting a term, following the Jigsaw Scheme structure:
- Being Me in My World
- Celebrating Differences
- Dreams and Goals
- Healthy Me
- Relationships
- Changing Me
Through our curriculum, our school environment and our school ethos, we promote pupils’ self-esteem and emotional well-being, which helps them to form and maintain worthwhile and healthy relationships based on respect for themselves and others. We aim to shape aspirational, motivated and responsible pupils by giving them the tools to be able to overcome factors that can influence their lives.
Children are given weekly celebrations, focusing on a specific personal, social or emotional task linking back to their PSHE learning in order to put into practise the skills they have been given and relate them to real-life opportunities. As a school, we meet weekly in assemblies to discuss our PSHE learning, how this links to our Modern British Values and core values; Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.
