RE – Curriculum Information

At Wansbeck RE is now being taught following the new RE framework. The aim of the new framework is to ensure that all pupils develop religious literacy through:

  • Knowing about and understanding a range of religious and worldviews (Worldview simply meaning the way in which people look at the world, not necessarily from a religious viewpoint).
  • Expressing ideas and insights about the nature, significance and impact of religion and worldviews.
  • Gaining and deploying skills to enhance learning about religions and worldviews.

The new RE framework is taught through the lenses of theology, philosophy and social sciences, encouraging children to look at things from different perspectives and prompting discussion on how things can be seen or interpreted differently.

Within each year group at Wansbeck, children will learn about the Christian faith. They will then study other religions and worldviews throughout the different key stages.

Foundation Stage pupils will continue to look at and learn about a range of religious and cultural celebrations throughout the year. They will also cover work under the following themes – special places, special times, special people, special books and special things.

Key Stage 1 pupils will focus on Christianity, as well as learning about Judaism and Humanism. They will do this through the themes of temptation, believing and big questions

Key Stage 2 pupils will focus on Christianity, as well as learning about Islam, Sikhi and Humanism. They will do this through the themes of communities, justice, our world and hopes and visions.

Throughout school life children will also learn about the Christian celebrations of Christmas and Easter. Other cultural, religious and non-religious celebrations will be discussed during assemblies and at other times as they occur.
