Key Stage 1
In Key Stage One, we work really hard to develop each child’s social, emotional and academic skills. We do this through our curriculum work and through fostering each child’s curiosity and engagement in their learning.
Key Stage One children are set across three classes:
Mrs Hill & Miss Durrans (Year 1)
Mrs Sharkett & Mrs Casey (Year 1 &2)
Mrs King and Mrs Hird (Year 2)
We have a structured and busy morning which includes core subjects such as Reading, Writing and Maths. In the afternoon, we have a range of activities which challenge the children through our engaging curriculum. These activities include Dance, Music and Art. Our children love the wide-range of subjects and learning on offer to them and make the most of working independently and working in pairs. This really helps them to engage in our curriculum whilst building vital social skills.
Something which is very important to use is developing our emotional selves. This is as aspect which is embedded throughout our practice in our phase through class circles, all children having opportunities for be ‘feelings monitors’ and all children being encouraged to have their own voice. Everything we do is from our class rules to behaviour is underpinned by our school ethos and values.
Our families and our community is very important to use and we use our curriculum to drive our learning and develop our academic, social and emotional selves. We use opportunities available to us, to engage families and the community to ensure everyone is part of our children’s learning journey.
