In Key Stage One, we work really hard to develop each child’s social, emotional and academic skills. We have adopted a collaborative approach to teaching and learning across the phase focusing on catch- up objectives to ensure any missed learning is fulfilled.
We do this through our curriculum work and through fostering each child’s curiosity and engagement in their learning.
We have a structured and busy morning which includes core subjects such as Reading, Writing and Maths. In Year 1, the children access their learning through a combination of continuous provision and teacher led activities. This is to ensure a smooth transition from EYFS into Year 1. In the afternoon, we have a range of activities which challenge the children through our engaging curriculum. These activities include Dance, P.E, Science, Music and Art.
Something which is very important to us is developing our emotional selves. Throughout our PHSE curriculum and daily routines, we teach the importance of being COVID safe.
Reading is a fundamental skill that the children need throughout their school life because it supports them in all areas of the curriculum. The children are expected to take responsibility for their own home reading books. Please encourage your children to read each day and to remember to bring their home reading book into school.
