Local Authority SEND Unit – The Arc and The Burrow
Wansbeck Primary School is home to a 16-place local authority SEND Unit. The SEND provision consists of two classrooms which we call The Arc and The Burrows. All children within The Arc and The Burrows have an Education and Healthcare plan and are places (after consultation) by the local authority.
The Burrows is a broadly EYFS / KS1 provision aimed at supporting children with complex communication and interaction needs. The Arc is a KS2 provision aimed at supporting children with communication and interaction needs who may often display SEMH needs alongside this.
The aim of the provision classrooms is to provide bespoke, individual support to children to support them in their educational journey in a smaller setting with support from staff with specific expertise in this area.
The curriculum is designed to develop social, emotional and academic aspects for the child. Developing social interaction and the development of speech, language and communication is at the heart of everything we do alongside developing emotional regulation. Our personalised curriculum offer outlines how we approach the curriculum for individual children through a well designed pathways program which enables us to meet the needs of al the children in our community.
