Lower Key Stage 2

  • 3HH – Mr Hawker, Mrs Rason and Miss Sanderson

  • 3/4 IK – Miss Kitchman and Mrs Wilson

  • 4LW – Mrs Withill and Mrs Schofield

Welcome to Lower Key Stage 2

Within out phase we have 3 classes. Class 3HH is a year 3 class taught by Mr Hawker, 3/4 IK is a mixed class taught by Miss Kitchman and 4LW is a year 4 class taught by Mrs Withill.

In Lower Key Stage Two, we work hard on continuing to develop each child’s social, emotional and academic skills. We do this through our curriculum work and through fostering each child’s curiosity and engagement in their learning.

Our mornings are very busy and comprise of the following lessons: spelling, guided reading (and phonics for the children who benefit most from this), Reading, SPaG, Literacy and Maths. Whilst in an afternoon we complete lessons and work that challenge the children in a wide range of lessons such as; PE, RE, PSHE, Science, ICT, Music, Spanish and Topic (which covers History, Geography, Art and D&T based around a theme).

We thrive to ensure that all children can succeed with their learning whilst also gaining skills that will help them as they continue to grow and develop through Key Stage Two and beyond.

As a phase we think it is very important that the children continue to further develop and build on friendships and continue to have wider experiences with these children as they transition from Key Stage One to Key Stage Two.

Just like they did in Key Stage One we think it is very important that the children are getting the opportunity to read 3 or more times a week, and where possible with an older sibling or member of the family. We also encourage children to start to take more responsibility for their home reading books, however, we would appreciate your support in helping the children return these back to school.

“The quality of pupils’ handwriting has also improved, particularly in key stage 2.”
